Data Center Engineering Career Roadmap
A step-by-step path for electrical engineers who want to work on data center design. Each stage links to free guides; the final stage is a full project.
Stage 1: Understand the facility
You are done when you can explain how a data center works and why it is built around redundancy.
Stage 2: The power chain
You are done when you can trace power from the utility to a rack and name every device on the way.
Stage 3: Calculations
You are done when you can size a UPS, generator, transformer, cable and capacitor bank and state your assumptions.
Stage 4: Drawings and documents
You are done when you can read and produce a single-line diagram, load schedule and cable schedule.
Stage 5: Protection, cooling and testing
You are done when you know how protection is coordinated and how a design is proven before handover.
Stage 6: Software and a project
You are done when you have used industry tools on one complete design and can show the deliverables.
